Former U.S. President Barack Obama has once again spotlighted Afrobeats’ global influence by featuring three Nigerian artists in his annual year-end music playlist, released on Thursday on social media.
The 30-track 2025 favourites include:
- Burna Boy — “TaTaTa” ft. Travis Scott (from No Sign of Weakness)
- Olamide — “99” ft. Asake, Seyi Vibez, Young Jonn & Daecolm (from Olamidé)
- Obongjayar — “Not In Surrender”
Obama continued his tradition, begun during his White House years, of sharing cultural picks across books, movies, and music. “As 2025 comes to a close, sharing my favourite books, movies, and music. Hope you find something new!” he wrote.
The nod sparked celebrations among fans, with #ObamaPlaylist trending globally. Many hailed Afrobeats’ dominance, posting “Afrobeats owns the world.”
This marks continued recognition of Nigerian talent: in 2024, Obama’s list featured Rema (“Yayo”) and Asake/Travis Scott (“Active”).
Other Highlights from Obama’s 2025 Playlist
- Kendrick Lamar/SZA — “Luther”
- BLACKPINK — “Jump”
- Lady Gaga — “Abracadabra”
- Chappell Roan — “The Giver”
Obama’s eclectic taste spans pop, hip-hop, indie, and world music, reinforcing his playlists as a cultural touchstone for global audiences.
